CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB:

The Chief Operator is a technical and supervisory position responsible to the Director of Wastewater Treatment for the safe and efficient operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Supervision is exercised over plant operations, maintenance and laboratory functions. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB:

The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is responsible to the Director of Wastewater Treatment for the operation, maintenance, and/or lab analysis of treatment facilities. Combinations of skilled and manual tasks are performed pertinent to the daily operation and maintenance of the plant. Perform analytical testing in accordance with State and Federal regulations. The position requires a general knowledge of sampling techniques, analytical procedures, laboratory safety, reporting requirements, and wastewater treatment. Work is performed at the wastewater treatment facilities, indoors and outdoors and in all types of weather.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Operations –
Operate treatment facilities to control influent and plant flow streams, adjust chemical feed rates, operate solids processing equipment and monitor effluent quality. Connect and disconnect hazardous chemical tanks for treatment. Attend and participate in the monthly safety meeting. Operate all areas of the treatment plant, maintaining a daily shift log, and recording meter and gauge readings. Perform various labor tasks as required in and around the treatment plant. Operate the belt filter press. Interpret laboratory data and relate to operational controls. Change operational conditions due to various process changes. Monitor meters, gauges and control panels and report any abnormal changes to the Director of Wastewater Treatment. Perform shift work as necessary. Periodically perform routine laboratory tests and analysis. Assist with routine maintenance functions. Clean equipment, buildings and other custodial duties as required. Adjust schedule when required to fill other operator positions. Perform other duties as assigned.

1. High school graduate or equivalent GED.

Job Summary

Engineer I

Engineering Technician II
Knowledge of basic mathematics principles, land surveying techniques, and general construction practices/methods; knowledge of MSD Design Manual, Standard Drawings and Standard Specifications, Metropolitan Subdivision Regulations and Zoning, Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control (EPSC) and Local Regulatory Floodplain and other environmental regulations; skill in operating a PC, computer aided drafting and design (CADD) software and associated Windows environment software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, etc.); skill in oral and written communication; ability to read, interpret and discuss detailed construction plans and topo maps; ability to manage, plan and effectively prioritize multiple projects and initiatives; ability to analyze problems and develop reasonable solutions; ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in decision-making; ability to work in a team environment; ability to be courteous and helpful under pressure; ability to work under heavy surges in workload and deadline pressure; ability to work 24 hour emergency response, various shifts and weekends.

Minimum Requirements:
Engineer I
Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited engineering program. Must be a certified Engineer-in-Training with the ability to obtain Professional Engineer’s license from the state of Kentucky. No experience required. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have safe work and driving habits. Must obtain Plan Reviewer/Preparer EPSC Certification within 6 months.
Engineer II
Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited engineering program. Must possess a Kentucky Professional Engineer’s License or ability to obtain through state reciprocity within 6 months. Four or more years of related experience. Master of Engineering Degree may be substituted for 1 year of experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have safe work and driving habits.
Engineer III
Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited engineering program. Must possess a Kentucky Professional Engineer’s License (or ability to obtain through state reciprocity within 6 months) and four or more years of related experience post-attainment of a Professional Engineer’s License. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have safe work and driving habits.
Associate Engineer II
Bachelor Degree from an ABET accredited engineering program. Six or more years of related experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have safe work and driving habits. Must obtain Plan Reviewer/Preparer EPSC Certification within 6 months.
Associate Engineer III
Bachelor Degree from an ABET accredited engineering program, or approved equivalent. Ten or more years of related experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have safe work and driving habits. Must obtain Plan Reviewer/Preparer EPSC Certification within 6 months.
Engineering Technician II
Associate degree in engineering technology (civil, mechanical, electrical, construction) or a related field; three or more years of related experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have safe work and driving habits. Must obtain Plan Reviewer/Preparer EPSC Certification within 6 months.
Engineering Technician III
