Job Summary
This Engineering Co-op position will be filled according to applicant qualifications:
Engineering Co-Op (Civil/Environmental) $18.00-$20.00 per hour
Engineering Co-Op (Electrical) $19.19 per hour
Engineering Co-Op (Civil/Environmental)
Under the direction of a Professional Engineer, provides technical support in the field of civil/environmental engineering to ensure that regulatory and community service-level obligations are met. Responsible for independent management of engineering related tasks as assigned by supervisor, including data collection, analysis and formulation of recommendations.
Engineering Co-Op (Electrical)
Under the direction of the Sr. Electrical Engineer, responsible for developing an archive of configuration files for MSD’s power monitoring and power protection devices, building a library of software applicable to those devices, development of an archiving system for arc-flash study files for all MSD facilities, investigating construction-related issues or disputes, gathering field data, and researching National Electric Code requirements.
Essential Job Functions
Engineering Co-Op (Civil/Environmental)
Responsible for completing engineering related tasks as assigned by supervisor. Assists with project related data collection and analysis. Develops recommendations based on the practical application of engineering theories and methods. Works with supervisor to learn basic project management skills and makes contributions to projects where appropriate. Attends consultant or contractor meetings with MSD engineering staff. Develops working knowledge of MSD’s regulated functions and regulatory requirements and applies this knowledge effectively to project contributions. Responsible for developing a working knowledge of the infrastructure, processes and core functions of MSD and then making practical application of this knowledge in all work products. Responsible for working in a variety of work settings including office environments, in the field, and with a diverse workforce. Assists with the development of in-house or public presentations. Conducts field inspection of MSD assets and/or green infrastructure. Assist as needed with the development of planning of future MSD infrastructure projects.
Engineering Co-Op (Electrical)

Develops recommendations based on the practical application of engineering theories and methods. Works with supervisor to learn basic project management skills and makes contributions to projects where appropriate. Attends consultant or contractor meetings with MSD engineering staff. Archives configuration files for protective relaying, power monitors and other power distribution equipment at MSD facilities.

Knowledge of basic engineering concepts and techniques; knowledge of regulatory requirements related to MSD’s regulated functions and processes; skill in operating a PC and associated Windows environment software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite); skill in oral and written communication; ability to utilize Hansen, Arcview, eB,SharePoint, Autocad and Telog; ability to learn and apply basic project management skills; ability to learn and apply presentation skills; ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications; ability to plan and organize work effectively; ability to work effectively under heavy surges in workload and deadline pressure; ability to maintain accurate records; ability to work in a team environment with a diverse workforce; ability to be courteous and helpful under pressure.
Engineering Co-Op (Electrical)

Currently enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters ABET-accredited engineering program as a full-time student in good standing. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have safe work and driving habits.

Currently enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters ABET- accredited engineering program as a full-time student in good standing. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have safe work and driving habits.
