FIND is seeking a firm or an individual (Firm) to act as Operator in Charge and be responsible for operation and reporting of the drinking water treatment system at the Gladie Visitor Center in the Red River Gorge of the Daniel Boone National Forest. The selected firm must hold certifications from the Kentucky Division of Water for Class 1-AD Drinking Water Treatment System Operator and Class 1-D Water Distribution System Operator.
The selected firm will:
Perform work in treatment of raw water using filtration and sodium hypo-chlorite feed system that changes the taste, odor, or chemical content of the water through accomplishment of the following assignments:

Monitors gauges, meters, pumps, filters, chemical feeders, and recording and controlling devices according to a prescribed schedule and performs routine operator maintenance. Adjusts valves and pumps to control and aerate water flow. Performs minor preventative maintenance on chemical feeders, pumping stations, and other equipment.

Performs water treatment tests to check pH level, turbidity, and chloride content. Adds chemical agents to chlorinate water as needed. Makes all adjustment in chemical feed, pump rates, and reservoir elevations based on test results, chemical concentrations, chemical test results, and elevation levels. Will be occasionally required to enter data into a computer database.

Responsible for conducting tests and measurements within prescribed State and Federal standards. Submits Monthly Operator Reports to the Kentucky Division of Water. Receives, checks, records and unloads water treatment chemicals and obtains samples for testing to determine the quality of chemicals. See attached document, Operation of Federally Owned Drinking Water System.

Oversees the construction, maintenance and cleanliness of the water distribution system. Lays lines, maps lines, sanitizes/hyper-chlorinates lines, repairs minor leaks, etc.

Trains up to four (4) Forest Service Operators in Training in drinking water treatment and distribution to attain experience required for certification.

Assists treatment plant operators in performing general housekeeping duties. Serves on the Emergency Response Team as directed. Performs preventive and/or corrective maintenance as required. Performs other related duties as assigned or as judgment/necessity dictates.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Necessary to the Work
Knowledge of the elementary principles of chemistry and general science; ability to learn the principles and procedures relating to the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to read, understand and follow written and oral instructions; ability to safely use all tools and equipment to perform work; ability to perform physically demanding tasks as outlined above; ability to work outdoors, at night and under adverse working conditions such as inclement weather; ability to climb and work in high places and confined spaces; ability to work effectively under heavy, unpredictable surges in workload; ability to work various shifts and mandatory overtime.

Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or GED; two years of skilled labor or related experience, or successful completion of a recognized basic wastewater treatment course or other related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Must meet aptitude assessment requirements. Mechanical experience desired. Pump station experience is preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license. CDL preferred. Must have an acceptable and reliable means for being contacted during off-duty hours. Must have safe work and driving habits.

Grayson County Water District is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Water Treatment Plant Operator. This position will provide efficient and quality operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant and assist in the distribution system for the Grayson County Water District. Candidates will be expected to maintain accurate records in accordance with established state and federal standards.

Candidates must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Any prospective employees will be required to obtain a Class II-A Water Treatment License within the first 3 years of employment. Candidates with a Class II-A Water Treatment License or higher are desired.
